EMBRACING ‘EDGE’ ACROSS FASHION AND INTERIORS

So you know about Valentino Rockstuds, right? THE must-have shoe of the moment (although, evidently, just one pair of many on my personal ‘lust-list’). Iconic Valentinos are not only deliciously current but brilliantly classic – (I love the courts) – embellished with their infamous pyramid stud. They epitomise the relevance of spiked and studded accessories today.

Red and nude ‘Rockstud’ courts with gold pyramid studding are a contemporary classic. The icon of the spiked and studded accessories trend in 2017

Spiked accents and studding are nothing new, especially in fashion. Like most trends, we’ve dabbled with this look before. And before that too. But, with this resurgence, it’s crossing genres and having a big impact on the world of interiors. No trend, after all, is an island

So today, in this post, I will be combining interiors and fashion. Looking at how fearless, punchy embellishment is making its mark in 2017.

STUDDED ACCESSORIES: THE EDIT

A mini edit of black and gold beauties for you to enjoy. (This classic combo works with a vast selection of colours and can be channelled across both interiors and fashion):

Top Middle: L’Objet – Coba Serving Bowl in Medium

Bottom Middle: Eichholtz – Vivienne Box in Gold

Right: Valentino – Rockstud Leather Gladiator Sandals in Black

THE 2017 STUDDED ACCESSORIES RULES

It’s amazing how trends and ‘rules’ cross-contaminate genres. Across both interiors and fashion, a little ‘punch’ goes a long way. Introducing spiked or studded accessories – to either your outfit, or living room – does just that: evokes a sense of power and strength. This emblazoned look works wonders when combined with softer elements. The edgy Miu Miu ‘Napa’ shoulder bag, with its tough quilting and studding (below) looks extra cool displayed against traditional, Damask flocked wallpaper in powder blue.

Remember, mix up your elements. A modern eclectic approach is key for 2017’s take on ‘Punk’. You CAN have too much of a good thing! Overload on studs and you’re in Sex Pistols/The Clash territory so dilute the look with pastels, florals, natural fabrics and unstructured shapes. Combine ‘hard’ with ‘soft’ to find the ultimate equilibrium. Find inspiration and ideas for timeless, elegant interior design and styling here and then throw in some ‘grrrrr’. Rose gold or copper elements can also be combined (more of this here).

SPIKED AND STUDDED ACCESSORIES: SHOP THE LOOK

Pack a punch with this motley crew. Go for monochrome and metallic for contemporary cool:

NB: If you’re more Gwenyth Paltrow than Gwen Stefani,  and all this ‘edge’ is a bit much, then you can always go for a subtle stud. That is – quietly accented upholstery – box pelmets, accent chairs etc. Classic. For the fashionista; a quiet nod in a studded earring or sunnies. More about studded upholstery in another post.

I’m still lusting over the Valentino’s but now have a whole host of other pieces waiting in my virtual shopping basket.

Does anyone else match their outfit to their interior, or is it just me?!
