THE FESTIVE GIFT GUIDE
IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…
I LOVE this time of year. Who doesn’t?!
Chunky knits and cashmere socks: the coats, the boots, those crisp sunny mornings. The sequins, the sparkle, Big Apple Red nails, Chai lattes served in festive cups, scented candles and Christmas windows… work parties, extra fizz, Secret Santa, the apprehension, the excitement – simply having a wonderful Christmas time.
Whether you celebrate or not, one thing’s for certain – you can’t escape that festive cheer! It’s warming – it’s contagious….
HIT THE SHOPS!
Strutting my way to Oxford Street…
The shopping part never fails to excite me! Yes, I know it’s not the be-all-and-end-all of the holiday season but it sure is fun! The idea of finding festive gifts (and perfect party-wear) fills some with dread but I’ve never been one to shy away from the challenge.
Ever keen to brave the crowds on a one-woman Selfridges mission, I love finding the perfect presents for family and friends. I’ve also been known to spend many an evening pretending to watch a box-set whilst perusing my favourite virtual stomping grounds (hello, net-a-porter)!
If this isn’t your idea of a fun time, I’ve taken the stress out for you. Here’s my festive gift guide in all it’s virtual glory. My mission was clear – find things I love. Find things that are luxe. And if they’re inexpensive then so much the better – although they shouldn’t look it! Here goes…
FESTIVE GIFTS – HER/ME
Let’s start with some deliciously luxurious girlie treats. These pieces could be gifts to others (or to yourselves) – I never like to give anything that I wouldn’t personally love anyway. I tend to up the ante at this time of year and am always inclined to go for a metallic finish or a bit of sparkle:

MONOCHROME – WITH A POP – FESTIVE GIFTS
I also have a serious penchant for anything monochromatic – and this applies at any time of year. Black and white play a huge part in my wardrobe and within my interior design schemes.

FESTIVE GIFTS – HIM
I love finding the perfect pieces for my husband because – let’s face it – it’s an opportunity to inflict my personal taste on him (when he otherwise refuses to listen to style advice, much to my dismay).
These pieces are not boyfriend/husband-limited. There are some great dad/grandpa/uncle festive gift options too.
FESTIVE GIFTS – MINI HER
As a mum of boys, I swooned over all this girlie gorgeousness. Essentially, I picked things that my (much) younger self would have loved but threw in contemporary perspective. Say ‘yes’ to cute little animal accents and nail sets brimming with glitter. And who doesn’t love stationery – at any age?!
FESTIVE GIFTS – MINI HIM
Let’s face it, my boys would be happy with an oversized cardboard box to hide in and turn into a spaceship. (They’re Star Wars obsessed at the moment)! However, if you want to complement this hero-piece with something shop-bought, here are some great options:
That concludes the GIRL ABOUT HOUSE festive gift guide for 2017. I hope you enjoyed my edit!
There are still some great deals to be found if you’re quick. Then you can feel incredibly organised and smug that you’ve ‘wrapped up’ (!) your gift-buying before it’s even December.
I’ll leave you with that not-quite-cracker-worthy pun and this image of some friendly festive gingerbread men…
Let me know what you find – I do love a shopping debrief!
