Interior design mistakes - we've all been there. Sofas that don't fit, impractical finishes regretted mere moments after installation, a colour that looks totally different to the tiny sample you signed off. In this post - the first of two - I will be identifying 3 common interior design mistakes and discussing ways to avoid them.

3 COMMON INTERIOR DESIGN MISTAKES – AND HOW TO AVOID THEM!

Renovations can be great fun. A chance to put your ‘stamp’ on a space – to elevate its aesthetic and and establish a fresh approach. Unfortunately, alongside the fun comes dust, spiraling costs and stress. Oh, the stress. I often meet clients mid-build who are utterly exhausted by the process. The constant decision-making – from […]

Whilst I strongly support the notion that great design is for everyone, regardless of budget, and appreciate that many people have great success in the aforementioned areas, I feel it necessary to highlight from the outset that 'stylish interiors on a budget' is not necessarily my specialism. I say this wincing uncomfortably and hiding behind my hands. This is, after all, not what I should be saying out loud. Upcycling/reviving the old has seen a fashionable revival. Sustainability is hot topic. But, whilst I support these ideals and practices wholeheartedly, it's important to remember that we all have our individual preferences and strengths.

STYLISH INTERIORS ON A BUDGET – A THRIFTY CHALLENGE FOR THE BHF

16th October 2018 , 12 Comments

MAKEOVER CHALLENGE: STYLISH INTERIORS ON A BUDGET I’m opening this post with a frank admission; frugality is not my USP. Thrift-shopping/bargain hunting is not my forte. And – at the risk of full disclosure – know that I couldn’t be less of a seasoned ‘re-purposer/’up-cycler’ if I tried. Whilst I strongly support the notion that […]

Inspiration was rife in Mykonos - from the hotel's relaxed Myconian/Ibizian aesthetic to the breathtakingly beautiful Elia Beach. Every evening we would meander along the idyllic pedestrianised streets of the Old Town, famous for its smooth, stoney paths, overhanging trees and sloping white-washed buildings. This is a very cool part of the world - with small, boutique galleries lining the cobbled streets and skilled artisans selling their bespoke pieces. Whilst design is key here, there is a distinctive less-is-more approach.

It's no wonder that so many of us look to achieve the 'boutique hotel style bedroom' when renovating our homes. Aspiring to create a private sanctuary oozing with elegance and sophistication...

And relax! I’m talking that exquisitely indulgent moment – the moment when you first melt into a sumptuous hotel bed. Transient, yes but oh-so memorable. Gently fragranced overstuffed pillows, fluffy robe, soft lighting – a home from home…only much, much better! The beautiful boutique hotel is no ordinary pied-à-terre. It represents pure, unadulterated luxury. It’s […]

SOFAS & HANDBAGS – THE ULTIMATE INVESTMENT

25th April 2018 , 5 Comments

SOFAS AND HANDBAGS – INTERIOR & FASHION FOUNDATIONS Sofas and handbags. Two of my MAJOR obsessions. And, whilst other elements fall in and out of favour at any given time, they remain permanent fixtures. It may seem odd to group sofas and handbags together. However, these trusted staples have more in common that you […]

Holiday House London - Following the beautiful runner up the stairs, Fiona Barratt Interiors's 'Curated Design' living room caught my eye immediately. A generous, light-filled space with a great sense of flow, it was finished to the highest of standards. The sculptural light, curving downwards above the coffee table, was a stunning focal point with its undulations emulated in the art relief hung on the back wall. This was a scheme with space to breathe - to step back and admire all the wonderful pieces within it - and a place where every vista was curated to perfection.
